Public Comment Period Approaching for Fort Peck flow proposal
The US Army Corps of Engineers has released proposals for planned releases of water from Fort Peck to mimic a natural hydrograph with the hopes of recruiting sturgeon to spawn in the Missouri River above the confluence with the Yellowstone River. Their proposal is outlined in the framework presentation which you can review online here Fort Peck Management Proposal
Opportunities to submit your concerns and questions will soon be here since they are planning public scoping meetings in Fort Peck and Williston in late February or early March.
The potential affects these proposed flow alterations may cause to irrigators and landowners below Fort Peck could be widespread. Consequently, MRCDC is developing local stakeholder meetings to facilitate discussion between irrigators, CD Supervisors, and local landowners to help us all work together to develop meaningful comments to this proposal. The first meeting will be held in early February in the Sidney area. More details coming soon.
